WHAT DOES THE MICROLIFE® ASTHMA MONITOR DO?
The Microlife® asthma monitor measures peak expiratory flow (PEF) and forced expiratory volume (FEV1) in one second. It also has a traffic light indicator. Monitoring your peak flow regularly often helps control respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic bronchitis. Peak flow means how quickly you blow air out of your lungs.
People suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) can use this device as a COPD monitor.
WHAT DOES THE TRAFFIC LIGHT INDICATOR ON THE ASTHMA MONITOR MEAN?
Using the asthma monitor and with the help of your doctor, you can determine your ideal values. These are the values you can reach under optimal circumstances with no asthma symptoms and feeling well overall. When you use this it is easy to see your values.
What are the different values shown on the traffic light indicator?
- Green: 80 – 100% of your ideal capacity. It means your asthma or respiratory disease is under control.
- Yellow: 60 – 80% of your ideal capacity. Talk to your doctor if your values fall consistently within this range.
- Red: under 60%: an asthma attack can happen any time. Follow your doctor’s instructions or seek medical help
